The Amazon Towers, located in Seattle, Washington, is a campus which represents the corporate headquarters of Amazon, and consists of three different towers. The first tower, which soars 37 stories tall, is connected to a 5 story amphitheater which serves as a meeting center, with a fold up stadium with seating for 2,000; it also contains 6 underground levels of parking space and retail space for restaurants and shops. The second tower is known for its 3 large domes called “biospheres” outside, which range from 3 to 4 stories high, and contain over 40,000 species of plants, a meeting space, and retail space. The final tower is an office building capable of housing 5,000 employees.

Apple Campus

Location: Cupertino, CA

Size: $5 Billion

The Apple Park, or Apple Campus, is the corporate headquarters for Apple Inc, consisting of a 4 story circular building closing around a large green space, and is capable of housing over 12,000 employees. 80% of its space consists entirely of natural setting, to the desire of Steve Jobs, who wanted the campus to behave more like a nature park rather than an office space. The Apple Campus also is well known for its energy efficiency, switching entirely renewable energy in 2018. Various facilities within the building include a 100,000 square food wellness center, 300,000 square feet of research development, and a 1,000 seat auditorium.

Ventura County Medical Center

Location: Ventura, CA

Size: $350 Million

Ventura County Medical Center is a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of California, Los Angeles which houses a total of 208 beds and has an additional replacement which finished construction in 2017. This wing was added in order to comply with California’s updated seismic regulations. In 2014 it was recognized as the best family-medicine residency program in the U.S.

Bethel Hospital

Location: Bethel, Alaska

Size: $300 Million

The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation is a hospital located in Bethel, Alaska which added new innovations as part of the Paul John Calricaraq Project since its founding in 1969. These new innovations result in two buildings totaling in 170,000 square-feet along with a new 130,000 square-feet clinic building and 54 units of employee housing. These rebuildings started in 2014 are required to reach the LEED silver certification.

Dignity Health California Hospital Medical Center

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Size: $215 Million

This hospital is considered to be a Level II trauma center, with 24-hour service in order to provide trauma care. Due to an increase in population in the surrounding area and the need for hospitals in the state to strengthen their structural requirements as a result of the Northridge Earthquake in 1994, this building will be updated with seismic retrofitting to be completed by 2030. This retrofitting will include an updated 4-story structure for medical operations and a 6-story parking garage.

El Camino College – Natatorium & Classroom Building

Location: Torrance, CA

Size: $48.7 Million

This addition to El Camino College is a 2-story building which includes 2 fully equipped swimming pools, five classrooms, two fitness multipurpose rooms, a PE laboratory, a fitness center, a weight training room, athletic offices, and faculty offices. The building was also designed to be more energy and environmentally efficient. There are also windows around the facility to provide natural lighting with the goal to minimize irrigation, making the building even more efficient.

Kaiser Santa Clara

Location: Santa Clara, CA

Size: $400 Million

The entire campus includes 5 structures which total in 56 acres of space, with the main building being over 700,000 square-feet. Phase I of the Hospital consisted of a 297,000 square-foot one-story below grade, 3-story above grade moment framed structure with the central plant in the basement. Phase II of the Hospital consisted of a 416,600 square-foot one-story below grade, 4-story above grade hospital. Facilities in the main hospital include a central plant, radiology, outpatient services, laboratories, and more. The rest of the campus consists of an office building, a cancer center, and two parking structures. What makes this building unique is that this was the first hospital in California to use Building Information Modeling to help with the MEP coordination process in the building.

LAX Delta Terminals 2 & 3

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Size: $1.9 Billion

The Los Angeles International Airport, also known as the LAX, is the largest and busiest international airport on the west coast, and recently had a big change involving Delta. The most major of these changes will include Delta’s move from Terminals 5 and 6 to Terminals 2 and 3, a move that was made in 2017, encompassing 658,000 sf. When completed, the facility will offer convenient passenger flows, sufficient gate-area seating, and a world-class concession program. Construction began on Terminals 2 and 3 in April 2019 and is expected to be completed in December 2023.

Masonic Homes at Covina – Skilled Nursing Facility

Location: Covina, CA

Size: 39,644 sf

These homes are part of a community of one-room apartments for either independent or assisted-living. It is generally known for its scenic setting and close-knit community. Amenities within the community include a provision of 3 meals a day with 24-hour available staff. In March 2018, a new OSHPD governed project began in which a new center will be built to provide skilled nursing, long-term care, and memory care in the community itself.

NVIDIA Santa Clara Campus

Location: Santa Clara, CA

Size: $370 Million

This campus serves as NVIDIA’s headquarters. When it was originally constructed, it only consisted of one building named Endeavor which has a square footage of 500,000. This building showcases a futuristic triangular-themed structure on the outside, with the inside of the two-story building reflecting the technology that the company is based around. In 2018, construction on another building of similar design called Voyager, with an even larger square footage of 750,000, totaling in accommodations for 6,250 employees.

Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital

Location: Santa Barbara, CA

Size: $700 million

Originally founded in 1888, Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital is the largest hospital located between Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area, which treats more than 20,000 patients and has almost 73,000 ER visits a year in the Santa Barbara community. As a result of California’s requirements for hospitals to withstand a 7.0 earthquake, renovations began in 2005 with completion in 2018. These renovations included an expanded emergency department with 24 new private rooms, an amphitheater, and museum on the first floor. They also incorporated an additional 134,000 square-feet of space and 90 beds into two newly added pavilions.

San Francisco International Airport – Terminal 1 & 2 Improvements

Size: $2.4 Billion Terminal Developments

The San Francisco International Airport is capable of flying about 100,000 passengers a day, representing one of the largest airports in the world. The renovations to the airport include the transformation of Terminal 1 and 2 for the purpose of providing greater customer service and world-class passenger facilities. Terminal 1’s new interim boarding area includes 24 gates with six of them specifically for international arrivals, with improvements in Terminal 1 also feature improved space for check-in counters, a new security checkpoint, a new baggage handling system, a new mezzanine floor that connects to the Airtrain and baggage claim areas.

Trinity IV

Location: San Francisco, CA

Trinity Place is made of three residential buildings in Mid-Market in San Francisco which houses apartments, retail, and a piazza. The buildings boast luxury apartments with amenities such as bike storage, fully outfitted fitness centers, and residential lounges with wi-fi. The “4” in the project’s name represents the 4th building to be built as part of the project. The apartments add a total of 15,300 square feet of apartment space. 17 stories tall, Trinity IV has 502 units.

Wilshire Grand Hotel

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Size: $1.2 Billion

This building is the tallest building in Los Angeles, and the 14th tallest building in the entire United States, towering up 62 floors. This tower serves a mixture of hotel, retail, observation decks, and as an office complex. Unique designs of the building include an exterior skin for the building with programmable LED lighting and a 200,000 pound spire which adds another 294 feet to the building. The tower also has a unique profile against the Los Angeles skyline as it is without a flat roof due to exceptions from the Los Angeles City Fire Department as a result of it’s advanced fire prevention.

USC Michelson Hall

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Size: $185 Million

Michelson Hall is the largest academic building on the USC campus, which is primarily used for Bioscience studies, though it has also been used by researchers for development of new drugs and biomedical devices. The hall is unique in that it is one of the few facilities in the world that combines research in engineering with that of physical and life sciences. The building is wrapped in over 250,000 bricks on the outside with looming arches and peaked windows in the front, adding to the building’s total of 300 windows. The facilities inside the building include wet labs, research centers, a fabrication lab, offices, conference rooms, and various research centers.

181 Fremont Street

Location: San Francisco, CA

Size: $665 Million

181 Fremont street is a luxury condominium located in downtown San Francisco which boasts
55 luxury residences along with 12 accessory suites for those staying. Residential amenities
provided by the building make up 6,500 square feet of the building, along with 435,000 square
feet of commercial space. The caissons are the deepest of any residential building in San
Francisco, digging nearly 260’ into the ground. As for the external design, the condominium has
an aluminum exoskeleton which contrasts against the windows of the building.
